Originally founded as the Austin Children’s Museum in the 1980s, the Thinkery is dedicated to play-based STEAM learning that nurtures children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive growth.
Today, the museum’s website serves as the primary hub for families to buy tickets, plan visits, explore interactive exhibits, and connect as members or volunteers.
RecognizeGood, a nonprofit connector, introduced Thinkery to WP Engine’s pro-bono Engine for Good program, which carried out the technical refresh.

The ChallengeA legacy site held back visitors
The Thinkery’s website had become dated and hard to navigate, making it difficult for staff to update and for visitors to find what they needed. It became a hindrance— especially when COVID-19 created a need for accessible, current information to stay connected.

The SolutionA refresh, powered by Engine for Good
WP Engine’s “Engine for Good” program rebuilt the site on Genesis Framework and Genesis Blocks, hosted on Google Cloud Platform, adding third-party eCommerce ticketing and improved accessibility.
Our new site design has proven incredibly useful throughout the challenges of the Covid-19 crisis. It’s made us far more nimble and helped us message visitors more quickly and efficiently about changes as they happen.
