Updating the Slider Revolution Plugin (RevSlider)

At WP Engine, we recommend running all of your themes and plugins on the latest available version. This helps to ensure the best performance and stability for your WordPress website.

Slider Revolution (RevSlider) is a popular paid plugin in the WordPress community. Because this plugin requires a license and the updated plugin files aren’t available directly through the WordPress Admin Dashboard, there are a few extra steps required to update it.

Updating Revolution Slider

To update RevSlider, we recommend following the steps below in your Staging or Development Environment after taking a backup. If everything looks good, go ahead and push the updated version of the plugin to your Production Environment.

1. Download the updated plugin files from the website where you purchased RevSlider. This may be from a theme’s website (such as CodeCanyon, as shown in the video below) or it may be from ThemePunch directly (the creators of RevSlider).
2. In your WordPress Admin dashboard, select Revolution Slider from the left sidebar.
3. Click the purple Update Plugin in the bottom right corner of the page.
4. Click Browse in the pop-up window to select the RevSlider zipfile you downloaded in step 1. Then click Update Slider.
